About this Home
Mahiga Children’s Home is tucked away near the foothills of Mount Kenya. Its green rolling hills make it a setting that is much different from what most people picture in Kenya. The palm tree that greets you just outside of the office makes this home peaceful and serene.
The staff have done a phenomenal job maximizing every area of the home. The children have space to play volleyball, a much loved sport at Mahiga! There are cabbages and other vegetables planted in several small gardens. The children help care for the dairy cows and other animals on the campus.
The area surrounding Mahiga is well-known for high quality secondary schools. Unfortunately, the primary schools are not as good, but our children work hard in school. For the last several years, one of the children from Mahiga has had the highest grades in the entire school.

A Child's Story
Brayan
I come from a large family of six people, with my mom being a single parent. We were illegally living on land owned by the government until we were evicted. I was a small baby when all of this happened.
We went to live at my grandparent’s house and my uncle offered us a small piece of land, however the ground was not fertile. My mom tried to find work in order to provide for us, but it was very unreliable. Because of this, I am not able to go to school consistently simply because my family cannot afford it.
I am so grateful to have the opportunity to attend school through Mahiga Children’s Home. I love learning and making new friends here! My siblings are living at other children’s homes in the area, and on breaks, I get to see them!
