Empowering Kenyan Students Through the Dorothy Keisling Character Award
Dorothy loved the mission and work of Chariots for Hope and loved seeing “her Kenyan children” grow both physically and spiritually. In honor of her legacy and character, Chariots for Hope has established the Dorothy Keisling Character Fund. The fund aims to empower these orphaned and vulnerable young adults to succeed physically, emotionally, academically, and spiritually.
At Chariots for Hope, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams. The Dorothy Keisling Character Fund ensures that our students can achieve their full potential, gaining the education and skills they need to support themselves, their families, and their communities. The impact of the fund is represented each year through the honoring of two nominated Chariots’ students who receive the Dorothy Keisling Award at the annual University Preparatory Retreat with the invitation for participants to have a personal relationship with the award recipients.
Create an Impact Through Dorothy's Legacy
Join us in honoring Dorothy’s legacy by giving a committed recurring gift for four years to the Dorothy Keisling Character Fund to support a cohort of Chariots’ university students. Your contribution will directly impact high-achieving Kenyan youth to succeed physically, emotionally, academically, and spiritually in their pursuit of higher education.
A lead gift has been made in 2024 to honor Dorothy’s legacy and launch the Dorothy Keisling Character Fund. The Keisling family and friends invite you to honor Dorthy and make a lasting impact in the lives of students in Kenya with a four-year commitment at one of the following giving levels or another at your choosing:
- $100 per month or an annual donation of $1,200 will provide university educational materials for high achieving University students
- $250 per month or an annual donation of $3,000 will provide the average cost of one year of university tuition
- $500 per month or an annual donation of $6,000 provides a full year of care and provision for one high-achieving university student including additional care such as Christmas gifts, higher educational tools for internships, gifts for guardians when visiting on school breaks, etc.
- Contact Angela (gro.epohrofstoirahc@wolraf) to determine how impact gifts of $6,000 and above can make a significant difference.
About The Character Award
The impact of the fund is represented each year through the honoring of two nominated Chariots’ students that receive the Dorothy Keisling Award at the annual University Preparatory Retreat. These recipients are selected based on the recommendation of caregivers, peers, and national staff who believe these students display the characteristics that Dorothy Keisling embodied. Sharing Dorothy’s inspiring story will motivate these and other young adults to achieve their full potential.
Givers to the Dorothy Keisling Character Fund are invited into a personal relationship with the two recipients of the award. You will receive quarterly updates from the two award recipients, and be invited to connect personally with the students. It is highly encouraged for givers to consider a four-year pledge to represent a commitment to one cohort of university students and have an interest in relational support and encouragement for the award recipients.
